150cm Teak Adirondack Swing Seat.
A swinging new twist on the classic Adirondack garden chair design
There are many kinds of garden bench designs but only some designs have become iconic. The Adirondack design is one of them. Defined by a sturdy construction, a rustic feel, a backwards sloping seat and high, slanted backrest formed from vertical struts of wood, and wide armrests, Adirondack benches were first known as Westport chairs and were created by Thomas Lee of Massachusetts. Lee owned a summer house in a town called Westport within the Adirondack Park, a preserved, forested area adjacent to the Adirondack Mountains. During the summers of 1900-1903, when enjoying the Westport house with his family, Lee set himself the task of designing a chair that could be made from the natural resources around him, and which would be comfortable to sit on no matter how rugged the terrain. Lee’s prototype chair was patented in Westport in 1904 and was the start of a new chair making business venture. Over the next 20 years, the Westport chair design evolved and the classic Adirondack seat design that we know today, was born.
A garden swing with style
The 150cm Teak Adirondack Swing Seat offers a new twist on Lee’s much-loved chair. Hand-crafted in premium quality teak, this swinging garden seat looks beautiful, with its pleasingly curved backrest formed from classic Adirondack vertical slats and flat, wide armrests. The front of the seat is curved too, with the horizontal slats rolling around the front, creating a lovely smooth look.
The tough, strong suspension cords, which pass through the armrests for added stability, are then fixed to the swinging bench seat by anti rust, solid brass fittings which are both attractive and practical.
Enjoy all the natural benefits of quality teak
Being hand made in quality teak, the 150cm Teak Adirondack Swing Seat is both strong and durable and can withstand regular, long-term use. It is therefore suitable for commercial as well as domestic settings. Teak comes with many natural qualities that are beneficial too. Being very dense and having a high, natural oil content, the timber is naturally water resistant and resistant to damage from chemicals, fire and insects.
The teak has a rich, golden-brown colour when new. This fades naturally into a lovely silver-grey. However, should you prefer the original brown colour, a simple wash down each year with soapy water will return the swing seat to its original shade. Although this swinging seat is low maintenance, you can also prolong its life by using some of Rattan and Teak’s teak care products.
